The activities for the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Decision for the new nuclear power plant in Kozloduy are being successfully carried out.

Activities have commenced for the implementation of the monitoring network at the site approved for the deployment of the new nuclear blocks at the Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant.

The team from the consortium „MSU - Energoengineering“ DZZD, selected to carry out the activities, must build a perimeter sampling network of 12 control points for monitoring and control of groundwater, atmospheric precipitation, soil, vegetation, passive monitoring of the gamma radiation background, and tracking changes in environmental parameters.

Each control point will consist of a deep hydrogeological borehole with a piezometer well for observations, an atmospheric deposition collector, a thermoluminescent dosimeter for gamma background monitoring, with two of these being equipped with a device for monitoring the seismic characteristics of the Earth's surface and a high-flow device to monitor airborne aerosol activity.

The monitoring network will upgrade the existing radioecological monitoring system of the Kozloduy NPP and at the same time will provide a database for the construction of new nuclear facilities on the site.

The activities for building a radioecological monitoring network are part of the „Programme for Continuous Monitoring of Site No. 2, approved for the placement of a new nuclear facility – a nuclear power plant“, developed and agreed with the Ministry of Environment and Water and the Nuclear Regulatory Agency. The quality of execution of the objectives set out in the Programme is a priority for „Kozloduy NPP – New Builds“ EAD, „Kozloduy NPP“ EAD and „MGU-Energoremont“ DZZD, because environmental protection is of paramount importance for all phases of the life cycle of the future new nuclear power facilities located on the site of Kozloduy NPP. By fulfilling the imperative obligations, conditions and measures laid down in the Order of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency for the approval of the site for a new nuclear power facility and the Environmental Impact Assessment Decision, „Kozloduy NPP – New Builds“ EAD, „Kozloduy NPP“ EAD and „MGU-Energoremont“ DZZD declare their serious approach and adherence to the latest standards in radioecological monitoring and environmental protection.
