"Kozloduy NPP - New Builds" EAD signed a contract for Engineering for a new nuclear capacity with the consortium "Westinghouse - HD&C" DZZD.

On 4 November 2024, in the Granite Hall of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria, an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for a new nuclear power unit was signed between „NPP Kozloduy – New Montages“ EAD and the consortium „Westinghouse – Black & Veatch“ DZZD.
The contract was signed by the Executive Director of „Kozloduy NPP - New Capacities“ EAD – Petio Ivanov, Alias Giedion from Westinghouse Electric Company, and on behalf of Hyundai Engineering & Construction – by Mr. Yoon Young Joon.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Interim Minister-Chairman Dimitar Glavchev, the Minister of Energy Vladimir Malinov, the US Ambassador to Bulgaria H.E. Kenneth Merten, the Head of Mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Bulgaria Ms. Ji Yee Cho, and other officials.
The signing of the contract is a key stage in the implementation of the Project for the construction of a new nuclear power plant in Bulgaria. The joint work of two global companies – Westinghouse and Hyundai – to provide an integrated service in Bulgaria, will guarantee the execution of the Project within the pre-defined deadlines and budget.
The main objective of the activities provided for in the contract is to assist the Bulgarian state in obtaining the necessary data for the adoption of a final investment decision for the Project. The contract provides for obtaining an assessment of investment and operating costs.
In accordance with the contract, the receipt of a Technical Design for the Extended Nuclear Island, a Conceptual Design for the Turbine Island, a Conceptual Design for the Common Station Facilities, and a Conceptual Design for the Infrastructure is expected, all of which must comply with the requirements of Regulation No. 4 and are intended to assist „Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant - New Capacities“ EAD in the licensing process and the obtaining of the relevant permits from the authorities. These deliveries will allow the company to commence activities related to an interim report on the safety analysis for the Nuclear Regulatory Authority and the issuance of a construction permit by the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works.
