„Kozloduy Nuclear Power Plant – New Builds“ EAD is building an environmental monitoring network

The project company „NPP Kozloduy - New Capacities“ EAD continues to fulfil the imperative obligations, conditions and measures set out in ANR's Order for the approval of the site for a new nuclear power plant and the EIA Decision. Based on these key administrative acts, it has been developed and coordinated with the Ministry of Environment and Water and the Nuclear Regulatory Agency. „Programme for Continuous Monitoring of Site No. 2, Approved for the Deployment of a New Nuclear Facility – Nuclear Power Plant“.
To achieve the objectives set out in the Programme, a monitoring network shall be established to ensure continuous observation and control of natural components and factors, and anthropogenic phenomena in the area of the Site.
Given the immediate proximity of the established site to the operating nuclear power plant, which has many years of experience in monitoring environmental components and factors, a key requirement for the newly constructed monitoring network is that it must be optimally integrable with the existing one at Kozloduy NPP.
In this regard, „NPP Kozloduy – New Capacities“ EAD held a tender to select a contractor for the activities that will ensure the implementation of the monitoring network, and on 08.10.2021, it signed an implementation contract with the Consortium „MGU – Energoengineering“.
The consortium involves a team of highly qualified experts with proven professional experience and expertise in the execution of projects in the field of geodesy and radiological monitoring. This, in turn, is a prerequisite for the successful completion of highly specialised tasks within the Programme, related to comprehensive activities such as drilling work, the development of projects as part of the monitoring network, the establishment of sampling control points and the supply of specialised equipment. The high-quality implementation of equipment for monitoring environmental factors and components and human health is a responsible task, the successful completion of which is of fundamental importance for environmental protection and the reliable and safe operation of future nuclear facilities located at the Kozloduy NPP site.
