Presentation of the EIA procedure at the International Nuclear Forum, organised by the Bulatom Association

The ecologist of "Kozloduy NPP-New Build" EAD - Ms. Bilyana Simeonova took part in the International Nuclear Forum, organized by the Bulatom Association, under the patronage of the Ministry of Energy and the Nuclear Regulatory Agency, in the period June 5-June 7, 2019, Varna, Republic of Bulgaria, presenting a report on the topic: "EIA Procedure for an Investment Proposal for the Construction of a New Nuclear Capacity at the Kozloduy NPP Site", as the most current and impeccably conducted procedure for a nuclear installation in Europe at the present time.

The presentation provided a brief historical overview of the introduction of the environmental impact assessment procedure as a key preventive environmental tool in international and national environmental policies. The stages of the EIA process in the Republic of Bulgaria and the approaches adopted by the Contracting Authority of the investment proposal to meet the requirements of the environmental regulations were described in detail. Last but not least, the wide range of experts participating in the forum were introduced to the challenges accompanying the procedure, as well as the conscientious and highly professional attitude of the teams that developed and participated in it towards the activities for the sustainable development of nuclear energy.
