Support for the development of nuclear energy in Bulgaria
The Industrial Cluster "Electromobiles" (IKEM) and the Bulgarian Nuclear Company (BNCC) expressed categorical support for the development of nuclear energy in Bulgaria.
In letters sent to the Speaker of the National Assembly and representatives of the leading political forces, the expert organizations call for adherence to the will of the Bulgarian people, expressed through voting in the first national referendum in 2013, where over 61% of those who voted expressed their support for the development of Bulgarian nuclear energy.
In their statements, IKEM and BYAD emphasize that nuclear energy is a leading producer of clean energy, with over 71% share among low-emission sources in Bulgaria, which makes it an indispensable part of the plans for transition to zero-emission energy. The two organizations agree that Kozloduy NPP has been a leading producer of clean, reliable and safe electricity for over 45 years, with structural significance for the national economy and energy security.
The National Electric Vehicles Cluster also emphasizes the fact that the expected transition to electric transport will require clean and secure electricity production, which can only be ensured through the use of nuclear energy.
The positions of IKEM and BYAD advocate the opinion that the use and development of nuclear energy should be leading, with a view to implementing the EU's increasingly ambitious plans for energy transformation and transition to energy sources with a zero emission footprint.
In conclusion, both organizations appeal for a responsible attitude towards the preservation and development of nuclear energy in Bulgaria, believing that this will lead to energy stability and economic prosperity for the entire country.
