In compliance with the conditions and measures of the EIA Decision, which approved the implementation of the project for the construction of a new nuclear capacity at the Kozloduy NPP site and the instructions of the Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency, described in the Order for the approval of the preferred site for the location of the nuclear facility, activities have been launched to prepare a Program for permanent environmental monitoring.

At its meeting on October 14, 2020, the Council of Ministers /CoM/ decided to undertake preparatory actions and study the possibilities for building a new nuclear power plant at the site at Kozloduy NPP approved by Order No. AA-04-30/21.02.2020 of the Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency, in the context of achieving the European Union's goals for climate neutrality by 2050 and diversification of energy resources.

On February 21, 2020, the Chairman of the NRA presented "Kozloduy NPP - New Build" EAD with an administrative act - Order No. AA-04-30 approving site 2 for the deployment of a nuclear facility - a nuclear power plant.

After an extraordinary and final judicial review before the Supreme Administrative Court, no flaws were found in the legally conducted EIA procedure of the investment proposal for "Construction of a new nuclear power plant of the latest generation at the Kozloduy NPP site, Site 2.".

Today, August 13, 2019, at a regular meeting, the Kozloduy Municipal Council made a unanimous decision authorizing the development of a Detailed Development Plan - Regulation and Development Plan for the construction of a new nuclear power plant at the Kozloduy NPP site at the request of the interested party "Kozloduy NPP - New Build" EAD.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently awarded Westinghouse $ $12.9 million in funding to develop the eVinci microreactor using sodium thermotube technology. Westinghouse aims to design, test, manufacture, and install a demonstration reactor by 2022.
