The Nuclear Regulatory Agency with important steps for the development of personnel in the nuclear sector in Bulgaria.
The Nuclear Regulatory Agency (NRA) has taken important steps for the development of human resources and knowledge management in the nuclear sector in Bulgaria. As part of the activities related to the initiation of an Interdepartmental Working Group in early August 2021, the purpose of which is to prepare a National Strategy for the Development of Human Resources in Nuclear Energy in Bulgaria, the Chairman of the NRA, Tsanko Bachiiski, in his capacity as Chairman of the Working Group, held a meeting at the Kozloduy NPP with the newly established "Nuclear Competence Center" - Kozloduy. The association was specifically created for the development of human resources and knowledge management in the nuclear sector in Bulgaria.
During the working meeting, the main goals of the Association and the ways to achieve them were presented and discussed. The possibility of the "Center for Nuclear Competences" - Kozloduy, using the resources of its founders - Kozloduy NPP, "Kozloduy NPP - New Build" and SE "RAO", to support the work of the Interdepartmental Group in the preparation of a National Strategy for the Creation and Development of Human Resources in the Nuclear Sector was also discussed.
Human resource management and knowledge management in nuclear energy are becoming an increasingly important factor not only for the safe and secure operation of nuclear facilities, but also for the financial and economic performance of nuclear energy companies in Bulgaria. This is especially important in the context of the energy transition to emission-free sources, which will transform the entire Bulgarian economy. Human resource policy in the nuclear sector is also key to the development of Bulgaria's scientific research and innovation potential, and this further emphasizes the importance of the actions taken related to laying the foundations of a sustainable strategic framework through the preparation of a National Strategy for the Creation and Development of Human Resources.
The development of human capital and the maintenance of a sustainable nuclear knowledge system require the active work of all stakeholders, and the enhanced cooperation between the Nuclear Regulatory Agency and the newly formed "Nuclear Competence Center - Kozloduy" is a testament to proactive behavior in addressing one of the greatest contemporary challenges facing the Bulgarian economy. Their importance will become increasingly greater in view of the future large-scale reform of the energy system, and this will require adequate staffing and quality knowledge management.
