Global First Power has submitted a licence application in Canada

Global First Power (GFP) has filed the first application in Canada for a small modular reactor (SMR) project to be located at the Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) Chalk River site.
GFP is applying to the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) for a site preparation license for a potential micromodular reactor (MMR) project, the company announced.
The GFP reactor is a 5 MWe high-temperature, gas-cooled (helium) reactor designed by the US group Ultra Safe Nuclear Corporation (USNC). In February, GFP became the first MMP developer to advance to the third stage of the selection process in Canada to build a commercial demonstration plant.
CNL's goal is to have at least one demonstration MMP built at its site by 2026. In June 2018, four MMP developers, including Global First Power, Terrestial Energy, and Starcore Nuclear, applied to participate in CNL's selection process.
