10 years of Kozloduy NPP - New Power Plants EAD

Today, the project company "Kozloduy NPP - New Build" EAD celebrates 10 years since its establishment, as on 09.05.2012.

The goal of "Kozloduy NPP - New Build" EAD is to organize and manage the entire process of feasibility study, design, construction and commissioning of the latest generation nuclear power capacity (III or III+) at the Kozloduy NPP site.

Over these ten years, the Company's team has completed numerous tasks from the critical path for the strategic development of the project. Within the framework of the feasibility studies, a technical and economic analysis, location determination (site selection) for the nuclear facility, and an environmental impact assessment (EIA) approved by a Decision of the Ministry of Environment and Water were successfully prepared.

In 2021, the Company received an Order from the Nuclear Regulatory Agency to approve Site No. 2 for the deployment of a new nuclear power plant of the latest generation. In addition, a monitoring network is being successfully built on the approved site, which will carry out constant radioecological monitoring and at the same time provide a database on the state of the environment. Activities to approve the Detailed Development Plan - Plan for Regulation and Development of the Territory of Site No. 2 are also continuing.

Along with the implementation of the new nuclear power project, the project company team actively participated in public debates on the need to develop nuclear energy in Bulgaria through the construction of new nuclear power plants at the Kozloduy NPP site. Employees of "Kozloduy NPP – New Build" EAD participated in expert discussions, forums, conferences, international meetings, etc., where they consistently defended the idea of building new nuclear units at the Kozloduy NPP site.

The successfully completed tasks within the pre-project studies phase emphasized not only the professionalism of the team of "Kozloduy NPP - New Build" EAD, but also proved their dedication to the implementation of a project whose dimensions are of vital importance for the strategic development of the Bulgarian energy sector and the sustainability of the national economy.

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the project company "Kozloduy NPP - New Build" EAD, the team of the Company expresses its sincere gratitude to the entire energy community in Bulgaria, which in times of challenges has shown its support for the development of the project. In this regard, first of all, it should be noted the unreserved and continuous support of "Kozloduy NPP" EAD, which has always assisted the Company in fulfilling the tasks set for the implementation of the project. Without this support, the project company would not have been able to achieve sustainable results for the implementation of the project for new nuclear capacity at Kozloduy NPP.
