Kozloduy Municipality supports the Project for New Nuclear Power Capacity in Kozloduy

THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL of Kozloduy Municipality VOTES DECISION No. 419

with which he accepted

Declaration of support for the investment proposal for the construction of a new nuclear power plant at the Kozloduy NPP site.

The Municipal Council of Kozloduy expresses its categorical support for the implementation of the investment proposal for the construction of new nuclear units at the Kozloduy NPP site. We, the municipal councilors, declare our confidence that the implementation of this investment proposal will give impetus to the economic and social development not only of the northwestern region, but also of the entire Bulgarian society.

We support the Decision of the 41st National Assembly, adopted on 29.03.2012, on the development of nuclear energy in Bulgaria and the construction of a new nuclear capacity at the Kozloduy NPP site. The reports of the company specially created for the implementation of this project and published on its website show that significant activities have been carried out in terms of volume and value to substantiate its economic efficiency.

Based on the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIA), a positive decision on the EIA of the Minister of Environment and Water was made. The report is publicly available and its conclusion is, that there will be no lasting negative impacts on the environment during construction and operation.

The Municipal Council of Kozloduy strongly supports the development of the energy sector and in particular the construction of new nuclear power plants.

In this regard, Kozloduy has a number of advantages that must undoubtedly be taken into account when making a final decision on this issue. For the construction of new energy capacities, Kozloduy has an established infrastructure serving the operating nuclear power plant, and this is an indisputable advantage. The radioactive waste repository (NRW) under construction is also an advantage. Of course, the greatest advantage is the highly qualified specialists working in the first Bulgarian nuclear power plant. Guided by the understanding that the construction of 7 and 8 power units at the Kozloduy NPP site is both in the national and in the interest of the citizens of the Kozloduy Municipality, we, the municipal councilors, we declare our resolute support and appeal for energetic action for the implementation of the project. Assigns the Mayor of Kozloduy Municipality to inform the central government bodies and the Parliament, as well as the general public about the adopted Declaration.

18 municipal councilors voted, including: "FOR" - 18; "AGAINST" - none; "ABSTINATED" - none. The decision is adopted.
