Meeting with Japanese specialists
On September 25, 2017, a meeting was held on the territory of Kozloduy NPP with representatives of the Japan Atomic Industry Forum (JAIF) and the Japan Cooperation Center at JAIF, at the initiative of the Executive Director of "Kozloduy NPP - New Build", Mr. Lyuben Marinov. The purpose of the visit was to exchange experience in the field of nuclear energy, with an emphasis on nuclear knowledge management and human resources, and to discuss future joint projects between the nuclear industry in Bulgaria and Japan.
The meeting was attended by representatives of Kozloduy NPP and the project company "Kozloduy NPP – New Build", who introduced the guests to the history, development and current role of nuclear energy in the energy policy and energy market of Bulgaria and the project for the construction of a new nuclear capacity at the Kozloduy NPP site. The guests, in turn, presented the Japanese nuclear policy after the Fukushima accident and the current state of nuclear energy in Japan, as well as the Human Resources Development Program in Japan.
The visit of the representatives of the two Japanese organizations continued with a visit to the control and engine room of Unit 5, as well as a visit to the State Enterprise for Radioactive Waste (SERAW), where the guests were visually acquainted with the development of the decommissioning program for Units 1-4. At the end of the visit, Mr. Hattori, Senior Advisor at JAIF, shared that he was very impressed with the progress that has been achieved in the field of decommissioning of the old units. An extremely important part of the visit was a meeting with the mayor of Kozloduy Municipality, where proposals for cooperation and cultural exchange between Kozloduy Municipality and interested Japanese municipalities on the territory of which nuclear power plants are located were discussed.
